Brahim Ali Abakar

Project Manager

Brahim is a monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) and research expert currently working as Project Manager for Altai Consulting as part of our West Africa team in Dakar, Senegal. His main areas of expertise include MEL and socio-economic research in the development and humanitarian sectors, with a specific focus on the resilience of forcibly displaced populations in the Sahel. He currently works as an advisor for the accountability of AFD's MINKA peace and resilience fund.

With over 12 years' experience in MEL, he has conducted 20+ MEL and policy research assignments in East and West Africa, including research studies on refugees, returnees and internally displaced people, developing in-depth expertise in the Chadian context. He has evaluated projects in food security, land governance, economic empowerment and protection, particularly in eastern Chad and in N'Djamena for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also conducted academic research on Central African refugees and returnees in N’Djamena, analyzing their resilience to food insecurity. His work includes evaluating cash transfers and financial inclusion of vulnerable populations (Oxfam) and Brahim has also conducted evaluations of complex humanitarian programs in conflict zones such as the DRC (Mercy Corps), and research on the Multidimensional Poverty Index in Cameroon (Aid by Trade Foundation).

His experience in Chad, Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean & LAC focuses on the design of data collection methodologies with hard-to-reach populations, the training and supervision of field teams, and the cleaning, processing, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, with a good capacity for writing evaluation and research reports, giving him advanced expertise in the use of data collection and analysis tools such as Kobo, SPSS, QGIS, Power BI, etc.
