Understanding the Mobile Disability Gap

Altai Consulting was commissioned by the GSMA to research the potential of mobile phones as assistive technologies for persons with disabilities in Kenya and Bangladesh.

This report aims at measuring the gap and barriers faced by persons with disabilities in mobile phone ownership and usage; identifying usage patterns of mobile enabled services (voice, SMS, mobile internet, mobile money) by persons with disabilities; evaluate the access to basic services and explore the characteristics of accessibility across the customer journey path. Data collection was made through a comprehensive quantitative survey with 2,000 persons with disabilities and 80 in-depth interviews in Kenya and Bangladesh.
