Powering Opportunity in East Africa – Proving Off-Grid Solar is a Power Tool for Change

Altai Consulting was commissioned by GOGLA to pursue their collaboration on measuring the socio-economic impact of Pay-As-You-Go solar home systems in East Africa. Customers interviewed for the previous Powering Opportunity report were reached a year later to verify the durability of impact over time. Over 1,400 customers from seven leading off-grid solar providers were interviewed across five East African countries.

The study enabled GOGLA to confirm results discovered in the previous report as well as deepen its understanding of the mechanisms behind impacts such as increased economic activity, increased income and improved quality of life.
