Improving the Quality of Life of Kenyan Households with Off-grid Solar Home Systems

The Shell Foundation commissioned Altai Consulting to provide an in-depth focus on the impact of solar home systems (SHS) in Kenya. The study was conducted with the help of Greenlight Planet which provided the research team with access to its customers for its 6W and 12W products. 1,001 customers were interviewed. The results show that impacts felt by customers purchasing SHS go well beyond SDG 7 (Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all) and also explores the financial adjustments some customers make in order to acquire a solar home system.
