Study on biodiversity conservation and public policy instruments for phase 2 of BIODEV2030

Altai supported the IUCN and WWF-France teams in Phase 2 of the BIODEV2030 project, through an in-depth analysis of the integration of biodiversity into the sectoral public policies of its 15 implementing countries. Altai produced: i ) A series of “Public policy and biodiversity conservation” analyses designed to fuel dialogue within the national multi-stakeholder platforms supported by BIODEV2030, with a view to encouraging the adoption of production practices that are less damaging to biodiversity. ; ii) Two video guides to using these analyses (FR & EN) ; iii) A cross-cutting analysis report covering all 15 countries and all priority sectors of activity, which identifies and presents suggestions for action on priority public policies, as well as a set of experiences of successful and unsuccessful reforms of public policy instruments, and the associated success factors and challenges. Independent Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Unit for FCDO’s Africa Regional Climate and Nature (ARCAN) Programme

Altai Consulting is providing the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) with an independent monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) unit for the Africa Regional Climate and Nature (ARCAN) program, as part of a consortium led by Ecorys and in partnership with the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED).



Learning lessons from the PAPBio program (Governance of protected biodiversity areas)

Altai supported the IUCN and its implementing partners to capitalize on the experiences of the Support Programme for the Preservation of Biodiversity and Fragile Ecosystems, Environmental Governance and Climate Change in West Africa (PAPBio). This EU-funded programme aims to improve the effectiveness of protected area (PA) management systems in West Africa, as well as strengthening regional governance, particularly regarding cross-border protected areas and the fight against environmental crime. Best practice guides delivered by Altai have been published in French and in English.



Evaluation of the France-IUCN Partnership 2021-2024

IUCN commissioned Altai to evaluate the France-IUCN 2021-2024 framework agreement, revolving around four thematic priorities: nature-based solutions, agroecological and restoration practices, oceans, and biodiversity science and governance. Based on the findings, Altai provided strategic and operational recommendations to inform the next framework agreement.



Research on the combination of extension agents and digital advisory services to support smallholders’ transition to sustainable agriculture

Altai was commissioned by the Grameen Foundation USA (GFUSA) to support the Agripath project, a research and innovation initiative aimed at improving smallholders' access to sustainable farming practices through digitally supported agricultural extension services. As part of its assignment, Altai investigates how endorsement from extension agents can facilitate smallholders’ adoption of Digital Advisory Services (DAS). The research analyzes three delivery models: (i) an agent-facilitated model, (ii) a farmer self-service model, and (iii) a hybrid model combining both approaches. By identifying key barriers and enablers to DAS adoption, Altai contributes to the development of a toolkit and a Scaling Framework to guide the effective expansion of digital extension models across the five project countries. 



Enhancing Digital Climate Advisory Services for Tanzania's Livestock Sector

Altai, in consortium with AXA Climate, Acre Africa, and TALIRI, has been commissioned by the World Bank on behalf of the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) to provide a technical support to strengthen digital climate-informed advisory services in Tanzania's livestock sector. Altai assignments include mapping existing digital solutions in the livestock sector and identifying gaps and opportunities to enhance digital climate adaptation. Additionally, Altai supports the other project tasks, with a particular focus on gender and food security, ensuring that climate advisory services are inclusive and responsive to the needs of vulnerable populations.

Third Party Monitoring (TPM) Services for the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Regional Program (HoAGW4R)

Altai Consulting, as part of a consortium led by BDO LLP, has been commissioned to provide third-party monitoring for the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience (HoAGW4R) program.



Financing ocean in Ghana, Senegal and Malaysia – Fundraising feasibility study

Altai Consulting conducted an evaluation of the voluntary commitments made by stakeholders in the BIODEV2030 project as well as the potential for implementing the commitments and results obtained to meet the objectives of the Post-2020 Global Framework and the country's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP).



Study on civil society's involvement in the elaboration of Senegal's NDC

Regional Market Analysis on Conservation Finance in Central Africa

Altai carried out a regional market analysis on conservation finance in Central Africa as part of the IUCN-led Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) to support the development of a pipeline of investable projects and help projects access the Nature+ Acceleration Fund managed by Mirova.



Final evaluation of the FAIR-Sahel project on agroecological intensification in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Senegal

Altai Consulting with its partner Nitidae was commissioned by CIRAD to conduct the final evaluation of the FAIR Sahel project, an EU - and AFD-funded initiative supporting agroecological intensification in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Senegal. The evaluation assessed the project's effectiveness in achieving its objectives, the implementation of its activities, and the outcomes achieved in relation to its Theory of Change (ToC). It also examined key aspects such as the evolution of partnerships within the consortium, the inclusion of women, young people and other key local actors, collaboration between research and development actors, and the project's ability to connect interventions across local, regional, and national levels. 



Endline evaluation of the project "All actors of energy and climate in the Maghreb"

Geres has commissioned Altai to conduct the final evaluation of its project “All actors of energy and climate in the Maghreb” aiming at setting up Energy and Climate Information Centers (SIEC) ; and led a strategic reflection on the wider deployment of the SIEC system in other countries of the Mediterranean basin, and on the feasibility of a network of inter-territorial SIECs.

Mapping wheat production areas in North-Eastern Syria
