Altai supports the UK’s Conflict Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) with action-oriented research, monitoring and development of M&E systems in East Africa, North Africa, and the Middle East. Since 2016, our work has helped CSSF to implement more evaluable, conflict sensitive, gender sensitive, and impactful security and stabilisation programming.

Highlights include Altai’s monitoring of the UK’s support to the Somali National Army, reviewing of the UK’s contributions to African peacekeeping training and operations, monitoring of stabilisation activities across Libya, and developing of a stability tracker in Jordan. We have conducted research about youth disengagement in Somalia, supported the design of multi-agency Theories of Change, and conducted reviews of how CSSF could adjust its approach to gender sensitive programming.

Altai also regularly supports USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) with action-oriented research, shedding light on complex problems and helping OTI teams design stabilisation interventions in transitional environments. We have supported OTI’s Libya Transition Initiative (LTI) for many years and recently have supported OTI’s programmes in Ethiopia, Sudan and Somalia mapping conflict dynamics, journalistic needs, and social media narratives.
