Laurentina Cizza

Project Director

Laurentina Cizza is Project Director with a thematic focus on Libya and migration in North and West Africa. She has a professional background in project management, field research, qualitative analysis and report writing. While at Altai, Laurentina has written evaluations and reports on the results of national perception surveys, conducted field research missions in West Africa, and presented key findings to clients and donors. Through her work with Altai she has developed a strong understanding of reconciliation initiatives and transitional politics in Libya as well as an understanding of regular and irregular migration dynamics in Libya and West Africa. She has experience working on migration related issues in West Africa, notably: Sierra Leone, Liberia, the Gambia, and Senegal.
Prior to joining Altai, Laurentina worked for Chemonics International Inc, a USAID contractor. She was staffed on the project management unit tasked with supporting the FEWS NET project in West Africa and Haiti. During her time at Chemonics, she developed a strong understanding of contract compliance, project management, management of field staff, and procurement processes.
Laurentina holds a Master of Arts in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS University. Besides gaining an understanding of international legislative frameworks governing migration and refugee issues, she also focused on the Middle East with a particular interest in Libya. During her time at SAIS university she co-authored two chapters on Libya and through these collaborations she developed an understanding of smuggling and organised crime dynamics governing irregular migration in the region.
Throughout her academic and professional career she has developed a fluency in French and an intermediate proficiency in Arabic.
