In August 2005, Altai Consulting started conducting a series of four quarterly nationwide surveys reaching all 34 provinces of Afghanistan in order to inform the international donor community of priority needs and perceptions of the Afghan public. In each Afghan province, 100 people spread among randomly selected locations are interviewed on different topics ranging from the perception of reconstruction efforts to political powers and security, with each quarterly survey having a specific focus. A team of more than 100 people (including specially trained interviewers) is mobilized on a regular basis to conduct the field work for these surveys. Altogether, nearly 15,000 people will be interviewed in over a year.
