Migration Trends Across the Mediterranean: Connecting the Dots

Description

IOM’s Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa commissioned Altai Consulting to create a fresh and updated understanding of the dynamics of the migration flows across the Mediterranean, in light of the great increase in irregular boat arrivals through the Mediterranean in 2014 and the ongoing political crisis in Libya. The study looks at two routes in particular, the Western Mediterranean route and the Central Mediterranean route. It explores how the situation has evolved in the Central Mediterranean in the last year, provides an analysis of the situation in the Western Mediterranean and explores the interaction between the two routes. Fieldwork was conducted between November 2014 and February 2015 across seven countries in the MENA region and Europe: Egypt, Italy, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia.
