Alejandra Val is a consultant at Altai Consulting in Research, Evaluation, & Consulting.

Her areas of interest include communication, education and gender. She is currently working on a project funded by the World Bank: "Moving out of poverty, Understanding Freedom, Democracy and Growth from the Bottom Up", a socio-economic analysis of several rural communities in 3 Afghan Provinces. This project has been conducted in 15 countries to learn about how to reduce poverty. The study seeks to enhance understanding of the interactions and sequencings that unleash poor people's economic potential and support broad factors across different political, social, and economic environments. The research work contributes to the development of new methodological approaches to building on available poverty data and integrating quantitative and qualitative methods.

She has done social research in different countries, all of them related with communication: Moldavia (University of Journalism), Argentina (University of Communication), Portugal (University of Communication) and India (University of Arts and Aesthetics).

She has published three books related with gender and arts: "Women, Arts and Society: XVI -XIX", Minerva publisher, Madrid, 429 pages, 2003. "Women Lives Through Posters", Instituto de Estudios Riojanos, Logroņo, 170 pages, 2003.and "The Social Construction of Feminity Through Paintings", Ayuntamiento de Valladolid, 100 pages, 2002.

Prior to joining Altai, Alejandra was as a University professor in Spain. She has been teaching "Theory of Communication and Public Opinion" and "Contemporary Spanish Art". She also hosted a radio program about education and arts in the Museum of Contemporary Art (Valladolid-Spain). Alejandra has also worked as a journalist in the Spanish Institute of Women. Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs.

Alejandra holds a Phd in Communication and Sociology (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and a Postdoctoral in Contemporary History of Arts from Harvard University. She also has a Master Degree in Indian Studies with emphases in gender and education. She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian, and has basics in Dari.
