Julien Lacombe is a social research consultant, with a focus on post-conflict reconstruction issues (illegal economy, security, counter-insurgency).
Since joining Altai in May 2004, Julien has worked extensively on evaluation and impact surveys across Afghanistan (he has worked in 22 provinces). Of note, he conducted a survey on counter narcotics, including in-depth quantitative analysis and targeted focus-group discussions. The survey covered the assessment of the risks related to both growing poppy and using heroin, the perception of the different stakeholders and people's attitudes towards the eradication process. The final recommendations were used in the client's information campaigns.
Prior to coming to Afghanistan, Julien's professional path combined both private sector and development experiences, ranging from market analysis and product development for L'Oreal to a needs assessment for rural communities in Nepal. He also lived in Indonesia, Spain, Sweden and France.
Julien holds an MBA from HEC Paris (one of the leading French Business schools), with a major in marketing. He is fluent in French, English, Spanish and Portuguese.
